Michael Morgan’s Top 5 Things to Look for on Opening Night
Oakland Symphony kicks off the 2016/17 season with Hadleigh Adams Sings Mahler, Friday, October 14 at 8PM at the Paramount Theatre, Oakland. There are many opening night features to look forward to including a complimentary glass of wine to the first 500 (21 and up) through the door, a red carpet photo booth on the mezzanine level, and free bike parking until midnight at the Uptown 19th Street BART Bike Station in partnership with our friends at Bike Station and Walk Oakland Bike Oakland.

5. Clark Suprynowicz’s Red States, Blue States
Oakland Symphony will perform is Suprynowicz’s Red States, Blue States in recognition of the election. This piece provokes thoughts about the election, but it is a piece about dialogue, not confilct.
4. Hadleigh Adams Sings Mahler
The concert is named for one of the major performances of the evening with Hadleigh Adams. The Mahler song, “Liebst du umSchoenheit” was the only love song Mahler ever wrote. Adams will join Oakland Symphony to take us on this journey.
3. Edward Elgar’s In the South
Elgar’s piece has the rarity of an extended viola solo in the middle.
2. Hadleigh Adams and Delphi Trio

The Juon, Mahler and Elgar pieces will offer three different aspects of the Romantic. Respectively: the unreserved, the intimate, and finally the sunny and optimistic.
